AI Can’t Always do your Homework… Why Not?

This blog post outlines a made-up assignment for this course where AI would NOT be useful.

Assignment: Write a reflection on how each learning objective for this class was demonstrated. Use specific examples from each lecture. Be sure to mention specific moments from videos shown in class, reference diagrams and examples mentioned in lectures, and resources used in class. 

AI would not be helpful for this assignment because it is required to reference specific examples from lectures. It is not possible for AI to have access to the drawings and concepts mentioned in every lecture. Even if you were to show AI the videos that were shown in class, it would not be fully completing the assignment. There are connections that are made in class to the learning objectives that are more subtle, and require physical and mental presence in the lecture to understand. This is something that simply cannot be replicated by AI. It would take far too long to feed AI all of the content from the course as well as lecture notes in order for it to be successful at completing this assignment. The AI would need to be taught, just as students have been in class, on how to connect each lesson and concept to the learning objectives for the course.
