Blog Post #2: The real differences between Digital and Analog
When you think of the term “Digital VS. Analog”, you may think of something like a clock. While this is technically an example of something that is digital and something that is analog, there are concrete definitions that define the two. Something that is digital can be described as having a finite number of symbols or possibilities, which just means that you can count the number of “outcomes”. Something that is analog, however, has an infinite number of symbols, which means that the possibilities are quite literally… endless! An interesting example of something digital in history is hieroglyphics- there were a limited amount of symbols that existed for hieroglyphics. On the contrary, something like a painting would be considered analog, since there are an infinite number of colors or shades that can be created by the artist. One way that the difference between digital and analog can be shown is through their signals, graphically. The image above shows a graphical representation of the two. It can be noted that digital signals are sharper, and form a square-like wave, while analog signals produce a smooth curve.
